          Our forests are large
I hunt woodcock differently than you
I wait for them to fly to me or I send the dog in to flush them out.It is very hard to walk where they are.I walk on the trails (sentier)
          The shooting is very challenging.
For 40 yrs I have used different breeds.
The best I found is a Labrador retriever or golden.
A Springer spaniel is good too.
If you use a pointer you will get lost trying to keep up to him and you won't shoot many. You will flush many, but not see them.
          Our season starts Sept 15.
I hunt woodcock until the weather forces them to migrate.
Usually the first week of Nov
Here when I hunt woodcock you also find ruffed grouse and Spruce grouse in the same places.

Ruffed grouse and spruce grouse are birds of mixed young forests.
They are found mostly on the ground.when they flush they are very explosive
They are not found in coveys. The size is a little smaller than a pheasant but bigger than a pernice.Shots are close but fast. There are many of them and they are very very tasty.

                Great!!
Do you hunt them with Labrador or with pointing dog (Pointer/Setter/GP)?
could you post same photos, please?

                Thank you

                  Una setimana con la regina

It is difficult to hunt with a pointing dog
                  I use a Labrador
It is difficult to keep a pointing dog here in winter
It is very cold -40 and the dog needs plenty of exercise everyday
                  A Labrador is stronger
I hunt grouse in deep snow. The birds hide in the snow .It is cold and you need a strong dog to hunt in the cold and the snow.
In October the weather is warm,But the forest is very thick
It is easier to have the dog find and flush the birds while I remain in the more open area.Very difficult to follow a pointing dog in the forest
I will post pictures in the spring of birds and the terrain in May.
That is when our snow melts and the birds start to come out and mate.
